Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana - Cappon.218

The Bibliotheca Apostolica Vaticana has updated their web interface to make it much more Digital-Humanities friendly, primarily in the realm of browsing and IIIF compliance.  What they haven't done is add any more metadata, so entries are still thrown out there without so much as a date or source.  For that reason I don't know very much about either of these Books of Hours, Capponi 218 and Borghese Latin 487 (see the next entry for this one).  Cappon.218 is a late gothic rotunda, with some illuminations that are identified as the work of the George Talbot Master, so probably the late 15th C.  There is some Spanish in the text (see rubric on f.232r-232v), which possibly points to a spanish comission or scribe.  The calendar is rather empty, with only 120 entries, and some very unusual errors -- important feasts like the Nativity of Mary(f.XIIIr, see below) are on the wrong date.  There are also some elements, like stray strokes that seem to indicate that the work is incomplete.  The borders on the rectos of the months are extremely well done, containing a coherent composition for the entire frame of the labor of the month with the Zodiac sigh at top integrated into the sky of the scene.
